"Spinners" gather at the Mount

Debbie Webb, left, a professional shepherdess, who has a flock of sheep used mainly for their wool, explains the art of spinning, the raising of sheep, and the dyeing of the wool to a group of fellow spinners from throughout Western Kentucky attending a three day gathering February 1-2-3 at the conference and retreat center. Also looking on are 21 youths from Saint Joseph parish in Central City who were attending a religious education program at the Center at the same time.

Three spinners, l. to r., Debbie Webb, Ramona Mayo, and Brenda Semar, look over a piece of yard they had just spun at the 3-day gathering of Western Kentucky spinners at the Center in early February.

Jody Ziegler, left, admires some Alpaca wool brought to the spinning gathering by Becky Monetathchi.
